Trophy overload
Hey all. Fairly new player who took a bit of a break in recent months, but coming back, and I am clearly suffering from trophy overload. I tend to be a bit of a packrat by nature, so I've been stuffing unneeded trophy drops in the bank thinking maybe some day they'll come in handy, but as I get further into the game, clearly this is a losing strategy. So, a couple of questions:
Is it generally best to just sell any you don't have immediate need for? Are there any that should be held on to no matter what? Any general guidelines, such as sell everything you get before <this> point? Thanks for any guidance. My bank tabs thank you. |

Off the top of my head, the few trophies that are of any decent value are: -Nick's Item of the Week -Destroyer Cores -Glacial Stones -Superb Charr Carvings -Save any you get from UW, or FoW, as they salvage from massive amounts of materials. -Geodes, they salvage into Rubies/Sapphires. -As a general note, save/salvage any that can turn into Feathers, Granite Slabs, Iron Ingots, Glittering Dust, and Plant Fibers. If you want to collect them, feel free to collect, just make sure you have 4-6 Character slots open so you can store them all. |

I am a registered pack rat as well.
I generally keep all underworld/fissure drops. I dont usually keep 'trophies' that are 5g or less (ascalon stuff, starter island of factions and nightfall). I do usually keep most of the drops from eye. I also check the holdiay collectors for what they will need (copper shillings, decayed orr emblems...--see wintersday and halloween) as well as canthan new year stuff (kraken eyes, smoking remains, ebon spider legs...)....I have special characters just for that stuff. (actually I have one character for factions stuff, one for nightfall stuff and a storage panel for eye stuff).....and yes I have plenty of characters who are just mules, too.

I've made a list of what items are needed for festivals and only keep what items are on that list. If it so happens that Nick decides he wants a bunch of <those> this week, it's handy to have. Other than that, just sell if you really don't have much space. |

Aside from what's already been mentioned, some drops can be used for collector weapons, which can be handy for outfitting heroes until you get something better. I usually refer to the wiki page here, or here for the non-collector drops.
Actually a more complete list is here (stackable items). Just check them to see it you can turn it into anything you might be able to use, if not merch it (or, create a mule character, just in case that rainy day does eventually come ) Cheers. |

It may be a good idea to look the items up on one of the wikis to get a better idea of what they may be good for and what they salvage into.

I hoard as well. Most of the hoarding really is for potential Nick requests. I know there are a few "prediction" wiki pages that try to plot out what Nick will ask for in upcoming weeks but don't know how accurate they are and/or whether they will start recycling (at which point you pretty much can tell what NOT to hoard). Anyone know how reliable these predictions are and, more importantly, whether the expectation is for the Nick items to start recycling?

I only learned of the prediction pages a few months ago and didn't really track them, so I'm not sure how accurate they have been. When I went through my stackable item inventory for Nick related items, I used this list http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Nicho...veler/Research to look up previously found items. If the list does start repeating I'll probably trash most of the items I have that weren't nick related as I don't really need collector weapons any more (unless I decide to put 40/40 sets on all my caster heroes... lol). That would free up a lot of much needed room for me. |

Here's a thread discussing both trophies and items that are good to keep and salvage:

This is a really good point, for me I keep a safety net. I only keep enough of something in stock to have 1 week worth of Nick gifts, then I merch the rest. I know that by the time Nick rolls around again, I'll have re-loaded my stock of that item.
